Sunday
In reality, the day of the week means very little to us now, we’re retired but I guess it’s ingrained now by years of working weeks. We have never observed Sunday in a religious manner either, maybe when we were younger but not now. Also, the weather app(s) tell us it’s going to rain so possibly a quiet day ahead.
So, what do we do on a Sunday morning, on holiday in a quiet wee Fife coastal town?
Well I’m away fer a walk. It’s my ritual, especially here, by the sea with a fabulous coast path to wander along.
First, coffee and toast, we bought a delicious Rustic French loaf yesterday in the local bakery.
I had a shower first, I often shower after my morning walk, I just like to get out there but it’s still eary(ish). It was actually 08:45 when I left.
Our wee rental is on a very old cul-de-sac and when I say old, seriously old. Barely wide enough for the bin lorry to reverse down, so cars parked on the footpath, pavement or sidewalk, must be cleared for Monday morning (but not today for some reason) 🤔
I’ll maybe share more info on the town and these buildings, I may already have done so in earlier posts.

These doors are both part of a very old tenement building we pass near the end of the street.

The street ends at a steep, partially cobbled hill, down to the harbour or up towards the top of town and the fresh fish merchant.
It was overcast this morning but that can be good so I wandered onto the Western pier to look back and photograph the harbour and surrounding buildings (again) 😊

Our flat is in the fourth building, next to the pale yellow one.

You may notice all the washing lines along this Quay? Yes, that’s where everyone can hang out their washing, there are no gardens or yards for most buildings.
I can imagine some people walking along here complaining about the rough uneven surface 🤣 ah modern life.

I don’t remember what these flowers are or were but there are clumps growing out of the old wall all the way along.
My walk takes me along to the open sea pool and onto the shore, today I turned for a shot back.

Phone pics stitched together, a wee bit curvy 🤔 you can see the static caravan park on the right and to me, the real path begins.
The rock formations along the shore, along with the bright green weed make it look wonderful and there are rock pools galore so lots of wading birds.
I came to a small inlet and beach area that I used to sit at and wait for the birds so, I was about to do just that when I spotted a few Dunlin foraging around the pools. I started taking shots and edging closer and they weren’t bothered at all so I sat on a rock and got some lovely shots, I think.

If you can tap and zoom you may see them in the centre of that shot, …… here …..

Those are transferred to phone, cropped a little but they were pretty close.
I don’t have a tablet or laptop to edit on, very frustrating when you think you have some good ones! Patience 🤯
I left them foraging and carried on. I recently posted some images of the bright yellow field of Rape behind our house, this is what it looks like just before harvesting.

Those shots show the way ahead and looking back towards Cellardyke.
I carried on to the houses knowing there have been lots of small birds around the fields and bushes just beyond; there wasn’t actually very much at all, lots of Linnet as there always are but I did see a couple of young Stonechat and another that may have been a young Corn Bunting.

I walked on to the old stone stile and used the top of that to scan the grasses and shrubs around me, not a lot going on so, I headed back towards town.

We had planned to walk in to Anstruther later so, I needed to get back.
I walked just over 3 miles, albeit slowly and thoroughly enjoyed it. Time to change for the walk into town.

Another thing I enjoy coming here, lots of walking.
I’ll try to keep up to date with our days here, stay safe and well for now.
ooooops! I missed a bit 🤯🤣
When I got back to Cellardyke I took a few shots from the harbour….

Why? That dark sky was creeping in and I do love a nice, ominous sky. That and my wonderful wee woman was waving to me ….
