Where we now live has almost 360 views, being on a hillock with dips to front and back, it has allowed me fantastic access to skies I may have previously missed and some natural events I most definitely would not see in our previous, limited urban skyscape.
What that means is, I spend quite a lot of time either standing outside staring at stuff or drifting in and out constantly, checking, just in case 🙂
2024 ended and 2025 began in full technicolour.

Although not as visible as that to the naked eye, it most certainly was visible as paler, darker reds and greens, the camera / shutter speed allows more light to get onto the image, which I have of course, edited but, I try to keep it as realistic to my mind as possible.

We had actually gone to bed earlier but I checked my Aurora app and there were green ticks everywhere, I had to get up and have a look!
As midnight approached, it started to fade but not completely.

These were taken at 23:59 and 00:02.
So I stood outside in my PJs and dressing gown, watching the flashing glows in the sky as people celebrated with fireworks.

On the evening of Wednesday 1st at 17:30, I checked the app, wandered outside and called Sarah, our daughter to come and see, she hadn’t seen Aurora before and was pretty blown away by the evening display.

These were taken from West to North East and I only had to lighten them up a little, it was one heck of an early display and we stood out for quite a while, the display knocked me back, I didn’t have the best lens for a full width image and I wanted to capture as much as possible.

There was an ever changing display of shapes and colours.

AT 17:56 I took a set of shots for a panorama, to try and relate how this looked, this was from West to due North.

I usually have at least one camera set up taking time-lapse images which I can blend into a video later on and tonight I was moving to and fro across the back of the house, looking for the best shots.

That last image was at 20:48 and the show was beginning to fade but would carry on like that for quite some time yet.
Quite a start to the year and here’s hoping there will be many more nights like this.
