A walk with an old compact

Several years back, I hankered after a small, compact camera worth taking on my walks with good capabilities, similar to my larger cameras, I settled on a Lumix TZ100, I don’t remember the selection process apart from the functionality I wanted at the price I could afford.

Fast forward several years and there is my old Lumix sitting in its case, which i bought specifically, untouched and uncared for. I had managed to get a scratch right in the centre of the lens at some point, hence it was put aside, I expected repairs to be too much so, I had a good look at it, re-charged the batteries which are still good and took it out for a test run. I also looked up repair costs which run at £45 ish up front with parts and labour to be added.

I checked all the settings, checked it functioned well and went for a walk, with my standard Nikon and zoom lens, just in case.

Please note: All images linked from Flickr, except the bird.

I set out on my usual route, wanting to check my wildlife cam en route, it was one of those clear but very chilly days with good light.

I have started entering the green lane, having a look around then deciding whether to take that path or go back out into the adjacent field ….. it was a field kind of day 🙂

As cold as it was and not much activity for this camera, I made it all the way back round to the main track passing by the reed beds.

I love to see clouds breaking up, to see rain trying to reach the ground. from there I walked all the way to the old Oak, stopped to drop off some bird food then carried on down the hill.

I love that tree, the silhouette is fabulous. I stopped off at my second wee feeding spot on a dry stone wall.

The Autumn (fall) colours are really coming through, in the right light.

My plan now was to get to the bottom of the lane, go check the old barn for any Barn owls then head back up.

I might add a shot at the end of this Lumix related walk; that above shows the bottom of our lane about right of centre.

As I headed back up the lane, the Sun broke through for a short while.

I’ve always loved that tree and the surrounding area, I sometimes stop to sit on that wall for a wee snack and breather before the assault on that hill, it can be a bit of a killer 🙂 To the far left in that shot is an ancient hill fort, to the right …

A ploughed field with a ruined souterrain in the middle.

I slogged up the hill, almost on a oner, stopped to catch my breath by the feeding stop, then on up to the old Oak.

The homeward stretch with the green leaves of the old Oak and the feeding post just off centre.

I dropped down the dip on the other side, almost there …

Just look at that sky, by the time I got back to the house, it had clouded over, again and not long after started raining, for a change 😉

I had a thoroughly enjoyable and think I tested the camera pretty well, what do you think?

And did I get the Barn owl?

But not with the Lumix, I couldn’t waste another opportunity like this one. Happy chappy once again 🙂

Thank you for joining me on my camera test walk
