Here we go again

Well, it’s August and in the Northern hemisphere, “nichts is fair drawin’ in” 😉

It’s Aurora season! Woohoo and …. we had a clear sky night, mostly so …..

Just a couple of shots from a time-lapse session which began at 23:30 last night, the 13th and ran until 03:58 this morning (14th) and I was quite pleased to see flickering shapes and colours as I scanned through the shots on the back of the camera this morning. Not only that but, the Perseids meteor shower is still going on and ought to be in the same general direction so ….

I think I need to get my settings saved somewhere, the last time I tried time-lapse, we didn’t actually have any darkness, now we do and I couldn’t remember the correct settings. I also set the lens a bit slower to compensate for those lights just below the horizon, I can either have starred lights or white blobs but brighter Aurora, stars etc.

That was probably the brightest that the Aurora got but there’s also a meteorite just left of centre near the top.

Have a tap or click on those, they have the brightest meteorites in them.

All these shots have a meteorites in them somewhere, some also have satellite trails which are usually much shorter and lack any colour.

Of course, I had to try for a star trails shot ….

A full set of images, over-laid which combine to show Aurora, the movement of the stars / Earth and in this case, probably the brightest Perseid meteor.

So there we are folks, the first Aurora of this season along with meteorites, what more could i ask???? Sprites? 😉
