July 27th 2026 – Sorry, there is a part two. After my morning walk along the shore, I walked back to the flat to collect Jo and we set off for Crail, back along the same shore 🙂

I love walking the fife Coastal path so whether I do it twice in one day makes no difference to me. One thing I did decide was, I would take a camera, shorter lens and I wouldn’t be bird watching on this walk. This was our walk, not mine. The weather was good apart from a strong breeze but it was behind us the whole way so really not a problem, the Sun was shining and there were few enough people walking to make it a pleasure saying hi and sometimes more. We met people from all walks of life, from all over the world, some short walking the path, some walking from Kincardine, Dunfermline or South Queensferry, the full walk.

One thing they all loved, they had THE best weather for it.

We ambled along, chatting and taking in the views until we reached Caiplie Caves, there are good picnic spots around there where we could shelter from the wind. There was a group of teens, i guess, with a couple of adults, must have been out on a walk, they were exploring the caves so ended up in my shots, didn’t want to stand around hoping they’d move on soon.

I absolutely love these rock formations and the colours, as well as the fact that they have been around for a long, long time.

We found a niche in among the rocks opposite the caves to sit and have a wee break and picnic.

While we were sitting there a butterfly flew by and i just knew it was a bit different.

It was a Wall or Brown Wall and I have never seen one up here but, apparently they are slowly moving North as the climate warms up!! I’m not going to get into that here 🙂

As we set off for Crail, I grabbed a couple more shots of the caves, with people in the shots for scale.

That way leads back to Cellardyke & Anstruther. I’m going to drop in some phone pics of the walk from here to Crail.

I love these old stone stiles.

There are two ruined cottages? at this point, what was their history?

Beyond those ruins lies a clear walk to the final headland and Crail is just beyond that.

A bit of a hike up the old steps then cut left because the path has been closed by erosion.

The view down to Crail and beyond, walking on to St. Andrews would follow that headland.

A well deserved sausage butty and a coffee before catching the bus back. The bus is free to us pensioners in Scotland, wonderful.

We took the bus, which was pretty busy, lots of walkers as well as locals heading for home, then walked back to the flat from Anstruther.

A relaxing evening was had …

I watching the window and view, as ever …

The Isle of May in evening light with a flight of Gannets passing.

I love seeing the shadows of the rooftops of the houses were in cast onto the harbour wall.

And then …

I spotted the almost full Moon rising into wisps of cloud over Torness power station on the coast opposite.

A 98% waxing gibbous Moon glowing in the late evening sky, this was just after 21:30.

One more, in black and white …

And so our day drew to an end, who knows? I might go for a walk along the shore in the morning 😉
