Welcome to the big scary world

It’s been a while since I’ve added anything from the garden, so taken up with all the birds out on the patch, the Fox cubs etc. but yesterday was the first day in the garden, to the best of my knowledge, for a brand new Great Spotted Woodpecker 🙂

Mum brought it in to one of the suet feeders then shot off, probably to feed more hungry mouths back at the nest site, I’ve seen a few out on my walks. We have quite a lot of GSW on the patch and I absolutely love them, whether out there or here in the garden. They are so funny, clever and engaging once you get close to them.

I looked out my window and could just make out the red feathers through all those leaves blowing in the wind. It’s been cold, wet and windy for a few days, marginally better than dreich 🙂

I spent a good while trying to get focus through the leaves and threw out quite a few but the cameras today are amazing. Those were just after 10 am yesterday morning.

Mum and dad have been zipping in, stocking up on morsels then whizzing off again so I’ve been ready and waiting.

First pa pecker, then ma!

I went about my day, i don’t just sit here editing photos and listening to music all day you know!!! 😉

I wandered back into my den and all hell broke loose 🙂

First I saw the red head colouring right outside the window, then I crept slowly but quickly to the camera and started grabbing shots …

I had to back off the zoom to get more bird in shot.

Isn’t he or she just beautiful? All lost and kind of scared! I was concerned about our local raptors but I haven’t seen one around the garden for a while now. It panicked when young Starlings flew down.

Wonderful. I’ve been having a ball, despite the weather, sitting here photographing all the birds dropping in, I’ll share more soon, meanwhile …

PS, sorry about the musical background or …. guess the band? 🙂
