A Coast Walk in Fife

March 27th 2025

I may have mentioned before, when I’m out walking I sometimes make my walk choices on the fly, usually dictated by weather, impending weather or orders from the beloved. 🙂

This morning I chose to walk to Crail. What the heck eh!

I didn’t know about the Crail Harbour Gallery & Tearoom when I set off but, that’s where I ended up 🙂

As you can see, according to the great Google Maps, it’s a 1.25 Hr walk. I took two and a bit, there’s stuff to look at and photograph!

You’ve seen some of this walk already, the first section, almost to the 1.25 minute mark is what I walked every morning.

Looking across to the Isle of May in morning light.

Just beyond the houses there are a few fields with coos in them!

They’d had wee coos! How cute are young Highland calfs? They didn’t give me any good poses this morning and the light was awful and it was cold so, that was it 🙂

This is a pretty rugged shoreline and I really must take time to explore all the nooks and crannies next time.

There are some fabulous lumps of rock and sea detritus scattered all along this shore.

And then …… there’s Caiplie Caves!

I’ve made do with a single panoramic shot of the rocks and caves for this occasion but will return in better light to explore some more.

An al’ stane dyke and stile. An old stone wall and stile with a sign for dog owners to ignore 😉

The firth or open water is to my right all the way along this walk.

The far right of that shot leads into Edinburgh and the Forth bridges, the North Berwick and Dunbar coastline runs almost all the way to the left.

And what walk is complete without a ruin or two, I do love a good ruin or remains.

They only leave us with more questions!

I was almost at Crail but part of the older coast path has been closed due to erosion and weathering so, up onto the headland looking down onto the old town.

All these towns are just beautiful, to explore, photograph, read up on and stop for a cuppa in 🙂

A wee cock sparra oan a hedge. (Token bird shot)

I walked out onto the main road and down into the town, aiming for the harbour, that’s when I spotted the tearoom.

Just look at that rock, the colours, the peeling paint!

I headed back up the hill to the tearoom only to discover it has a wee terrace with a view!!! Bargain.

You can see in that shot, what sort of day it had been, it was now pouring and threatening to continue for the rest of the day so, I walked back up into town, after a suitable cake and coffee, and caught the bus back to Anstruther, jumping off before the main town and walking down to our accom. in Cellardyke.

I loved this walk and it will be done again, maybe advancing farther along the coast next time? The entire coastline can be walked but not on this holiday. 🙂

Stay safe and well, I’ll be back soon, as soon as I can catch up on editing 🙂
