*Names changed to protect the beasties. 😉
I am very lucky to have a great selection of regular garden visitors to the feeders and now and then, a less common visitor might drop by but I don’t think I have any favourites, apart from maybe colouration making them more pleasing to photograph and share.
That said, there are those that can be highly entertaining to watch, among them, the Pheasant. There are phases or maybe seasons when they wander in to check the snacks and when they do, they can have me chuckling with their behaviour, they often remind me of characters from Monty Python when they duck down to hide or sneak away then run like the wind 🙂
The most frequent visitors are the males, the females are far more shy generally speaking but ….
On April 25th this year, Cedric arrived in the garden, followed by his lovely lady, Calliope, a rare event but lovely to see her for a change.

Male Pheasant are great to photograph given the long tail and elaborate, iridescent feathers but, the female’s feathers are beautiful too. As soon as I spotted them both I could tell Cedric was a bit worried that she might not like his choice of establishment.

He might have been worried about the low and narrow entrance.

It was a little snug but she managed and even stopped for a little paparazzi shot!

It really was great to see them both drop by but, they don’t make it easy to capture their image ….

Dodging and diving ….

They’re such inconsiderate subjects 😉
And they don’t ever overstay the visit., I hope you enjoy seeing them briefly
Wonderful images of these beautiful birds!

Thank you so much, despite my comments, they are right outside my window so not too difficult for me 😉

Hello Brian,
What a handsome couple☺️
They look similar to our national bird (Japanese Green Pheasant). They are notoriously shy and skittish (despite being our national bird, the are legal targets for game hunting during hunting season) but become bolder in the Spring during the mating season.
I hope they will continue to visit you again!
Warm wishes,
Takami
