August and all that Pt. 5

A very pheasant stroll

August 9th, out and about on the patch again.

One of my indecisive walks I guess, headed up to the old Oak, then carried on down the lane to the second turnoff then changed my mind and back up again. There’s a good workout on this lane of pretty steep hills.

It was at the feeding post that I had a fun encounter with ‘Cedric’ a Pheasant!

Standing across the lane, I watched this fella sneak up to the fence to check what I may have left to eat.

They may not be the brightest of birds but they are definitely photogenic. This one didn’t have the white neck band, not sure if it was moulting or a youngster, maybe just different?

There are a lot of them around here, often wandering into the garden to check under the feeders.

I don’t remember if I scared him off or just wandered away ..

It’s beautiful at this time of year when everything is in full bloom, green leaves, full colour flowers everywhere; it’s also a pain sometimes in photography terms, when you can see or hear a bird but can’t get the shot 🙂

The lane itself gets used as a heating area for butterflies and dragonflies, we often see lots of them scattering as we drive up or down.

I’m also coming to believe we could be almost self sufficient up here.

There are around 10-12 apple trees scattered around the woodlands along with Gooseberry, Cherry, Raspberry, Hazel ……

I spotted this Red Admiral hiding in one of the Gorse bushes at the side as I walked by.

It was back up at the feeding post that I came across one of my favourite birds on the patch.

Eurasian Nuthatch, until quite recently, they were scarce up here but seem to be moving in good numbers, love it. 🙂

So quite a short walk today but that’s just the way I roll 🙂

See you again soon.
