It Rained!

I currently set up a camera in our North(ish) facing window when there’s promise of a clear night sky, who knows what I might capture, right? I set up the Interval shooting, usually one every 15 seconds and set it for dark, currently around 22:45 until around 04:00.

I get decent results but; there’s currently one spider lives on the outside of the window, the window gets dirty and it’s double glazed. All of those things cause minor but irritating issues when it comes to a final video and even some of the shots I’ll extract from it.

So, I ordered a cover. I’ve been pondering the construction of such a thing for ages and then, dammit, just buy one.

It arrived a couple of days ago and last night was forecast to be clear with possible Aurora activity and it’s relatively warm with no rain forecast. I set up the camera around 09:30 last night, outside on a tripod with the new hood over it; it doesn’t have a lens front cover but, there’s no rain forecast.

Fast forward to 07:00 this morning. I slept well! Bonus. I dragged myself out of the arms of Morpheus and shuffled through to the patio doors.

It had rained!!!!!!!

I carried everything inside and started mopping the lens face, the cover had done its job, the camera was totally dry, as far as I can tell, I now just have to hope the lens is reasonably water resistant; it’s a Viltrox AF 13mm, not hugely expensive but still….

I have now loaded all the images onto a drive, scanned through in Lightroom, I click slowly-ish through 1205 images! It must have rained this morning before I woke up and after the shoot had finished, the images are fine and …… I caught this!

I simply enhanced and lightened the image a fair bit but, that streak! Is it a ground strike meteorite or a ground based green laser?

A faint Aurora and the Moon about to set over to the left.

I’ll put it out there and see what I get back. 🙂
