That could be misleading I guess ….. that aside, I got lucky today on my patch walk, with my bird photography.

I’ve been passing and checking an old barn on my longer walks, there’s a nest box in there and I’ve managed to photograph one, then two Barn owls using it, albeit through ever thickening vines.

You can just make out two Barn owls through the haze of greenery, which has now grown too thick to see through at all but, there’s a gap around the side and if I’m sneaky quiet, I sometimes get a clearer view, never for very long, until today. 🙂

Today I walked on the (newly-cut) grass verge and kept as quiet as I could while also holding the camera ready. That’s the usual problem, not long and I’m never ready.

See, I got lucky, there was a Barn owl on one of the rafters and it was distracted by something so looking away from me.

It was preoccupied and either ignored my presence at that point or was totally engrossed.

I was standing very still and being very quiet.

It saw me at last but ….. stayed there!

So I ask you. How many photographs can anyone take of a Barn owl staring back at you?

Eventually, I thought I might step forward a little … slowly … carefully …

Nope! It was gone but, not far!

I actually liked the setting now, I liked all of it but for me there’s added interest in those shots.

Once again, I asked myself, how many? So, I decided to take a chance and walk around to the entrance area, see if I could get an angle there.

It was now a bit further from me but once again, I loved the light and the background / foreground. Something caught its eye briefly.

But returned to staring at me. I did try another entrance, another couple of angles but there wasn’t a shot so, I decided to head back around to my start point.

I was moving to and fro, trying to gain some height to clear the beam causing that blur, not that I hated it being there.

There are broken roof tiles and beams all over this space but they only enhanced the view in my opinion but I return to my earlier question. How many photographs can you take? So I left it to get back to the nest and carried on my walk but, before you go …. 🙂

Did I get lucky or not? I hadn’t brought a tripod and probably wouldn’t have had the time to set up properly but, I was one very happy chappy with what i got. How many of us get this close, for so long? Yes, some shots are cropped in but only usually to centre the subject.

I hope you enjoy these as much as I did getting them. I will of course, be back there …. soon 🙂
