Coppee!

What are your morning rituals? What does the first hour of your day look like?

There’s no traffic here, no noisy neighbours for the most part so nothing to waken us up other than light around the curtains and the fact that I am a very light sleeper.

I tend to waken first so I’ll roll around a little, rub the dust from my eyes, check the time, once I can see then put on my watch / Garmin.

Then it’s either time to wait quietly or time to go make the coffee and toast.

Coppee, toes? From a humorous story in a far East hotel.

If Jo wakens while I’m waiting I’ll get, “Coppee?”

We may go through our morning ‘who’s making it?’ But, it’s me, it’s my job.

Sometimes, and I know this is a bit wild! Jo will make it 😱

Most days, it’s me. We buy several variations of Illy coffee, it is delicious! It is cafetiere coffee.

Why does anyone pay £££££ or $$$$$ for high Street, big name, rip-off coffee?

Convenience.

I choose which we’re having and toast a Harry Gow Morning Roll 😋😋👍🥰

Also, I cut the roll horizontally, twice so we get a bottom, a middle and a lid! The lid is a delicacy that is much fought over 🙄

Jam, Honey, Peanut Butter, Honey & Cinnamon, Syrup; all varieties of toppings.

We’re pretty out there eh?

We chat, discuss what passes for News online then I go fire up the Mac.

Actually, since Apple put out the Tahoe update, I often fire it up before heading for the kitchen, it is SO SLOW now.

After coppee, it’s time for tea. I have a Radiance herbal or Green Mint Tea, Jo has a Mint Tea.

The daily question has to arise ….. what’s for dinner? We’re older now, we discuss it, mull it over but, whatever will be, will be.

We may discuss the day, are we going anywhere? Do we, or does Jo need to go shopping? The nearest small town is four miles away, do we need to go further afield?

Am I going for a walk? On the patch or elsewhere? My favourite walk is a reservoir that is 7 country road miles away.

All of it is with humour, nothing needs to get too serious and, at some point, I’ll drift through to my den, start some music, open Lightroom and set about some photo editing.

And that’s usually it.

Oh. Did I mention, we’re retired? No rush 👍

There are usually a few words of weather shared. It’s dreich again. It’s pishin doon! The Sun is out, although that’s a rare one recently 🤣👍

That’s our morning, always with smiles.

Try a smile every morning, take a few moments to waken up and start thinking.

Stay safe, smiling and well 👋

  1. Sounds like an excellent morning routine! You need that add these major decisions for the first morning minutes, better if done before the first hint of pre-dawn … in the still dark of night: 1) Check weather app including local radar. In my world Lake Superior has a HUGE effect on local weather. I suspect the winds off the ocean and your local hills do the same. The end result is a 40 mile drive before starting a birding hike can make a big difference … fog, snow, rain, sun, wind, etc. 2) Check my bird research devices … has anything hooted through the night 3) Refill the bird feeders assuming my local black bears have not paid me an overnight visit (they will wake up from winter hibernation within about seven days). Regardless … enjoy your coffee. I hate the stuff and will be sipping my Diet Coke. After all, we retirees have major decisions to make every morning!

Not dreich here this morning. It is nice and clear, 75 minutes before sunup. The temperature is 18F (-8C), and should fall by another 8 degrees before it finally starts to warm up about 45 minutes post sunup. My thermals are not on for my morning hike. Cheers.

  2. Oh, the peace of being retired, although we have a slightly different routine. Usually, early-bird May gets up first, does some things then disappears into the spare bedroom to do an hour or so of workout sessions. I stir a little later, which is not unreasonable since, being a night owl, I usually get to bed several hours later than May, do my morning routine then go upstairs to slowly wake up over my nutty porridge with tea or freshly ground coffee depending on my mood, and do a few puzzles on the phone to get the brain working. By the time May bounces upstairs, I am usually in the office sorting out club or photography activities After about an hour I feel ready to talk and decide on plans for the day.

  3. Hubby stays up late and gets up late, so I usually have an hour or two for myself: Coffee, then Wordle, then check the weather for clouds (preferred for bird photography), then think about my honey-do list, and what can be put off till tomorrow. Give hubby a hug while he wakes up and grabs his coffee, sit outside together and listen to the birds, finalize the day’s plan. We love, love, love being retired!

  4. I’ve been an early riser since I was 13 or so. We were a family of 6 with one bathroom- I hated the morning chaos so, one morning I got up before everyone else. I enjoyed my morning routine sans the chaos and left the house for school just as the rest the house was getting up. I’ve been an early riser since. love the quiet slow pace of waking up my body and mind. These days I get up open the blinds to be ready to see the day unfold, put the kettle on, get my tea things out and get my mug ready, and make toast. Sometimes I put something on my toast like jam, or peanut butter, or smashed avocado and egg, but today I had it plain.
Then I do Wordle, and Strands sitting on the sofa facing the windows so I can see how pretty the morning will be. By then He-Man is usually up. He usually makes a smoothie for breakfast. That’s when I head to my retreat and fire up my computer to read emails, blogs, and work on images.
    Retirement is bliss isn’t it.
