February 17th – I’m talking about Red Squirrels and them allowing me to get a few shots, it’s not the first I’ve seen this year, that one was way too quick to escape as soon as it saw me but, today……

I was just about to stow the camera and move on when I caught a glimpse of red hopping behind the old Oak tree, it re-appeared on my right, heading for the “squirrel feeder post” and I had time to pull the camera back out of the holster, point, shoot, pull back on zoom, shoot …. gone!

As I was all fingers and thumbs and smiling like a loon, it actually spotted me and ran towards me before shooting up the tree.

I’m amazed that came out! As you can see, it was pretty close, that shot is un-cropped. I tried to follow it up the tree and along some branches but it was way too quick for me.
Am I happy? Most definitely. Not only did i get a few shots, the sun was actually shining! 🙂
Here’s to many more opportunities this year, it’s not the squirrel post for nothing you know 🙂

Ah, it’s so cute! I love its tufted ears in the sunlight. Great shots! It’s snowing here this morning. They’re saying we’re going to get anywhere from 4-8 inches of snow here in the valley today. I’ll be out shoveling later.

They do! We’ve shoveled twice already and the snow hasn’t stopped coming down. We’ll be back out in a little while to do it again.

Amazing photos. They’re truly difficult to photograph — always in motion, quick and unpredictable. Thank you for sharing these beautiful images. I absolutely adore squirrels. 🐿️

I do cheat a little ….. there’s a fence post behind it that hides nuts & squirrel snacks 😉

You got some lovely front on shots Brian. We searched for them in the Scottish highlands and managed to find one in a National Park and catch a few shots, of which most were blurry as the little rascal ran. I love their bushy white tails.

Red Squirrels are my second favorite squirrel, only topped by the White Squirrels of Brevard NC. Love seeing those little red ear tufts, make me smile every time I get to see those!

Hi and thanks Brian, these guys are protected up here, to the extent that we ought to report sightings of Greys whenever possible. I absolutely love it once I can earn the trust of these gorgeous wee beasties, many, many, many photos ahead
