August and all that Pt. 6

A mixed bag

August 12th, a wander all around, ponds, woods, barns and trails and a real mixed bag of images collected.

I was into the woods, heading on a right hand loop 🙂 before I spotted a photo-worthy opportunity.

A Common Darter on a grass stem with the dark of the woods behind it. I managed to walk past it and capture the same on in the sunlight.

I carried on, down the steep bank, a good sized flock of small birds seemed to be following me as I walked, following a food source more like! It was a really mixed flock, probably young birds.

Long-tailed Tits formed part of the flock and I managed to grab a few shots of one or two above me, beautiful wee birds that rarely stop for a photo!

As you get down to the bottom of the bank it can get really wet and muddy, burns and ponds all around.

Usually plenty fungi down here, it’s that time of year when I’m constantly on the lookout. With birds, insects, fungi, my poor neck!

Out into the open. and around the pond areas, loads to see here.

The numbers of Damsel and dragonflies are dropping slowly but surely.

The wild flowers areas have changed a little, some colours dying back, leaving a mostly yellow top.

Still a good few butterflies around, loads of whites that just confuse me 🙂 and still a good number of Darters.

That second Black Darter shot …… “oooh, whassat?”

When you look at the map above, there are four ponds within that lower loop, starting at the top with the last one being at the bottom, before turning back up the lane.

It was as I headed back up the lane that one of the many Buzzards dropped out of the treelike and cruised past me.

Almost back at the top of the lane and more fungi!

There’s an area up here that fills with Chanterelles but I don’t trust them enough to pick and eat!

I’ve mentioned a few times that some dragonflies are happy to let you get close sometimes?

Even smiling for the camera 🙂 It’s often the limitations of the lens, in this case a 180-600mm that keep me from real macro shots.

Passing the old Oak, one of the Robins with young stopped for a stare!

And a final check in the barn, see what the owls are up to …

Dozing, for a change 🙂 I still haven’t seen any of the Barn owls out and hunting …… yet 😉
