I set off for a patch walk just after 3 pm, an unusual time for me to set off but, I wanted to go down to the mailbox and it’s not always delivered until well after 2pm or later so….

There had been little activity in the yard for most of the day so I wandered over to the barns to check on the owls. As I arrived at the nest box site, I spotted an owl on the dividing wall so moved to try and get a shot but, it flew across the barn and into the next one, like they do when they are leaving so, I walked across to that entrance and carefully peeped in, moving a bit, looking etc.

I was thrilled to see a Barn owl outside the nest box, it has to be one of the youngsters!

This one was looking behind…… at?

At its sibling! Two of them! They have to be the young ones?

The far one spotted or heard something down on the floor ….

There had to be something making sounds down there.

One flew down a little lower

Checked on me (sneaking slower across for better angles)

Checked on its sibling!

Before it too, flew down to join it.

At which point I either made too much noise or moved too quickly ..

One flew right …

One flew left, back through to the other barn ..

Where it decided enough was enough!

And that was that! All in the space of around 2 minutes! I really need to get my low light setup sorted in my head. I had to work on these quite a bit to clean them up which always degrades sharpness.

That said, I was very happy just to have watched those two out of the nest box.
