East Neuk of Fife – Day 2

Or is it Day 1?

We were all together again, those of us still here to get together and we hope to keep doing it as often as we all can.

My brothers only had a couple of days so we were going to try to fit in as much as we could without rushing it all.

But first, I’m up and out myself as usual. My sister was up and preparing to take Archie for a wander but I’d be going further and hoping for photographs so a wee noisy dug isn’t great company 🙂

So I headed East, for the coast walk, see what was to be seen! There are loads of wee narrow neuks and crannies along this old road, some leading to the sea, others into private gardens so I chose carefully. 🙂

The first shot is looking towards Anstruther harbour, the second, towards the coast walk I was heading for. It was a pretty blustery day as you can see by the sea state but a fresh clear morning.

Along the narrow street there are fabulous old house markers with initials and dates, a couple of old pubs, not open yet 😦 and up ahead, the harbour at Cellardyke, a photographer’s dream IMO!

How picturesque is that? And in glorious sunshine too 🙂

I wandered all around this beautiful old harbour, looking, enjoying and of course, taking photographs.

Bearing in mind this was in March, the pub never opened while we were there but, since there are two Best in UK chippies in town…… 🙂

I drifted everywhere around the harbour, absolutely loving it. The red telephone box was decorated with photos by a local photographer and of course, his contact details, great idea.

I’d already decided I’d be back here, often.

Aaaaaah – people!

This group of ladies were heading out on a walk along the coast path and I ended up taking a few group shots for them, instead of selfies.

I clambered over the wall for a look at the coast itself again, as well as the coast path ahead, before deciding to head back, see what stage the family were at.

Looking back

It was now 10:30 and I knew we had plans for today so, I walked back …… and met the family coming my way 🙂

  2. Wonderful photos! These kinds of villages are like stepping into a time machine – it’s as if time hit pause a few centuries ago. And I’ll admit, I’m a bit jealous! You just won’t find places like this on the Belgian coast. Maybe, if you’re lucky, somewhere inland along a river, but we Belgians have a habit of either demolishing anything old or “renovating” it until all the charm is gone. Soak it all in while you can. I enjoyed it myself.All the best,Marc

Good morning Marc and thank you, sadly these villages are very “settled” lots of incomers and rentals now meaning local people can’t afford to live there any more but, yes, there are several of them, all very picturesque with potential for great photography. The Isle of May is just off this coast and a bird sanctuary!

      1. Good morning Brian! Well, I’m not exactly a fan of travelling by boat or plane these days, but honestly, this might just be worth it. The Isle of May and its puffins? Count me in – I’d love to see it for myself! Guess I’ll have to negotiate with the wife first, though 🙂

      2. I’d agree Marc, worth the trip, good walks between the villages and lots to see all around the area as well, also, not far from St. Andrews. I still haven’t been over to the Island myself, next year maybe.
