The weather forecast isn’t great for this weekend, not complaining, it’s been scorching for several days and we really need some decent rain fall. I came through to the “den” to edit my overnight time-lapse shots and create a video clip of them if suitable, they were but, meanwhile I am keeping an eye on the garden, tree and feeders. I missed a (young?) Sparrowhawk dropping by, all the batteries were on charge! C’est la vie but it was still nice to see and watch him for a few minutes.
A few birds dropping by caught my attention.
I did a count / report to BirdTrack which included Siskin, lots of young at the moment, Tree & House Sparrow, Great Tit (youngster) Goldfinch, Great Spotted Woodpecker x 2 (one youngster) as well as those above and the Sparrowhawk.
The weather is looking pretty dank for later so, I headed out for a quick walk, I haven’t been up to the old Oak for ages and if it’s going to pour, I can get out before it?
I got as far as the barns and spotted activity over by the old slurry pit, stopped off for a few shots, wandered by the Barn owl nest box, all asleep I guess, nothing to see there, then round the back and down the lane.

A male Yellowhammer popped up onto a pine tree for a few moments as I wandered by, always nice to see but, the sky on the horizon was looking pretty dark …… onward.

I got to the bottom of the lane before I heard the first rumble of thunder, then round to the first tree when I heard the second and felt the rain start so ….
I turned around and headed back up the hill as it slowly got harder and wetter, back to the house just as it really opened up!So, here I am. Typing, editing, listening to music as usual while the thunder rumbles, the shower pass in various strengths and a few birds brave the elements to keep themselves fed.
Oh! Big news! We’ve always called the feral cat, Maggie, as in Maggie May(be) because we’ve never really known what sex she is. We know now.
I drifted out into the kitchen on Thursday morning at o’daft thirty (around 3:30 am) and saw two tiny black kittens and a tiny Maggie running away!! Woohoo ………. I think?

Such beautiful images. I am glad you are getting a brief respite from the heat.
Hope the kittens and Mama stay well in the heat.
Best wishes from Japan,

Good morning Takami, from a very wet central Scotland, thank you very much. The cat is coming here to be fed a lot now, the kittens have only been seen once way too early one morning but, fingers crossed 🙂
