The where?
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The East Neuk (/iΛst njuΛk/ β) or East Neuk of Fife is an area of the coast of Fife, Scotland.
“Neuk” is the Scots word for nook or corner, and the East Neuk is generally accepted to comprise the fishing villages of the most northerly part of the Firth of Forth and the land and villages slightly inland. It would include Lundin Links,Elie and Earlsferry, Colinsburgh, St Monans, Pittenweem, Arncroach, Carnbee, Anstruther, Cellardyke, Kilrenny, Crail, and the immediate hinterland, as far as the upland area known as the Riggin o Fife.[1]
The area houses a Cold War era bunker[2] near Crail. Built in the late 1950s to be a regional seat of government in the event of a nuclear war, it is now a tourist attraction.
If you’ve never been to Scotland, why not? π If you have but didn’t see it all … have a look at this.
OK, so that’s some of the supporting info out of the way. We had driven into Fife a few times in the past, we used to visit St. Andrews now and again but Tentsmuir forest and beach more often. This was to be several days with family!! We booked a cottage in Cellardyke which is an old burgh, essentially attached to Anstruther, certainly as far as walking was concerned.
All I knew about this area was that it was very pretty and great for photography, I also wanted to walk between the towns where possible, the Fife Coast path runs from Kincardine in the South of the kingdom and follows the coast all the way around to Newburgh for 183Kms! I was only planning on doing a wee bit π

I must add, there is a LOT to see and do in Fife. The North Fife coast is around 21 miles for us, across the Tay Bridge in Dundee, then a further 21 miles to Anstruther and not a difficult drive at all so March 23rd we all loaded up the car, my lovely lady, mum, sister and wee broon dug! (A Border Terrier called Archie, but only if there’s food involved) π
My two brothers were going to join us at the house, one driving up from Chesterfield, the other riding his m’bike over from Norn Irn!
Arrival day consisted of sorting out sleeping arrangements and then wandering around Anstruther to get our bearings and something to eat. It must be noted that there are two Award winning Chip shops in Anstruther so they had to be sampled, and it must be noted, I didn’t carry a camera at all that day!!!! Whaaaaat? OK, I did take several phone pics π

One of three Fish & Chip shops and the Coast cafe, delicious coffee and really friendly service as well as a cracking roll’n’slice or Lorne sausage! I don’t do FB but they do have a page on there too. Coast Coffee
So that was day one. A wander round town to get our bearings then back to the rental to relax and enjoy the evening together. My brothers arrived later so it was a bit of a get together evening, we don’t do it very often.
I’m going to end there and continue with more photos and tales later.
See you again soon π

Now I have to use βwee broon dugβ in a sentence.

π great phrase isn’t it? I believe I first heard it from the great Billy Connolly but we’ve had a couple of Borders and they are definitely wee broon dugs! Any small brownish dogs fits of course π
