Spooky stroll

We went for a walk yesterday afternoon, down in the Den of Alyth, it was one of those changeable days we’re getting so used to, warm with the threat of rain that never really arrived until later in the evening.

We sat on the rocks at the edge of the burn and had a picnic watching all the birds and bugs flitting around. There were a few Bullfinches in the tall grass and weeds behind us, Grey Wagtails flitting up and down the burn, there are a couple of pairs at least that nest along the burn and we saw several sets of youngsters. A Spotted Flycatcher landed on a branch nearby, long enough for ID but not for a photo, typical eh?

Wren, Robin, Chaffinch and Woodpigeons all calling, singing g and flying around as we walked but, the star of the wander was the Dipper(s), we spotted a youngster on its own near the picnic spot and I got several decent shots, for later and managed a short video clip. I really need to actually take the monopod / tripod out of the boot (trunk) now and again.

The adult Dipper turned out to be a little special though …..

Spooky headless Dipper in the Den

The headless Dipper of the Den!!!!!!

Not really, of course. 🙂 More to follow.

  1. Sounds like you had a lovely day out. Seeing the Dipper, I was just thinking “where’s his head” before I saw your comment lol 🤭🤣 He was obviously having his afternoon siesta, bless.🤗 Lovely shots, does sound like a lovely place to walk and have a picnic.

Went to go to town, battery flat 😠 got a cab, whist waiting, I saw a Kite flying over my head quite low yesterday, desperately trying to get a shot on my phone, but it was too quick and disappeared into the cloudy sky. We do have quite an assortment of birds around here, lots of tree’s, hedgerows, grass, open countryside, so much so now in full growth, can hear all the birdies singing but, hardly see them, so Ive been recording the wonderful chorus of the natural world as a relaxing mediation to listen to. 🤗🐦‍⬛🦆🕊️🐣

    1. Uh oh, not the best of days for you then! Hope you got it sorted? Kites are beautiful aren’t they? They all are though really. I’ve been standing under trees staring at a feeding post for a couple of hours while the Jays lifted by every so often, just to wind me up. I’m determined to get some good shots of them

    2. Do you have the Merlin app? Listens to the birds and tells you what (it thinks) it is, I use it all the time as a backup for anything I’m not sure of but always try to see it too 🙂
