What? Drookit?
It’s a Scottish word for soaking wet and I love it, it just fits! 🙂
So yesterday, June 15th it wiz poorin’ a’ rain aww day. It poured (almost) all day yesterday and I sat here, by my window, typing, editing photos and watch / photographing the poor birds at the feeders.

That at 11:45 in the morning and it never really stopped until later in the afternoon. It doesn’t always rain in Scotland by the way 🙂
I really felt for some of our garden visitors out there in it all.
Some birds seemed to keep out of it but others, definitely not, this Jackdaw landed on the fence and just looked so fed up. It was so wet, I had to stare to check it actually was a Jackdaw.
That second shot! It looks SO fed up!
It didn’t hang around for long.
The young Starlings didn’t have the sense to get under cover.
This next one says it all I think.
The Great Spotted Woodpeckers were coming and going all day, they seemed to keep drier than many.
This young Siskin looked miserable.
But, the winner or loser for me was later in the day, I came through to switch off the ‘pooter and looked out into the pouring rain again…
Even our wee wild (feral) catty got soaked.

OK, that shot was from a few days ago but, she was out there yesterday as well, it was too wet for photos 🙂

Hi Brian. See what you mean now by poorin down. Looks like you’ve few days of heavy rain. Lovely photo’s, but aww, poor birdies, they are soaked, or “Drookit”, love that expression. 🤭 So many birdies kept you occupied and amused. The expressions and posture of them says it all, hunched up, looking as if to say “suppose you think this is funny, you in the warm and dry, so whatya looking at, go get my umbrella?” lol, 😀 Bless them. The Jackdaw, oh my word, what a pitiful but amusing sight, poor thing, he looked frozen too and his expression, oh my, he was obviously not amused. lol 😠🤣
Hope you got out in between downpours to feed the poor “Drookit” catty, who also looks as if its saying “ok this is not funny, I cant find the cat flap, so where’s my dinner and cat house?” 😹😿
Love the views you have from your window, you are so lucky, it does look very isolated. Peaceful and quiet though. Certainly looks like the sky is heavily laden with rain, clouds so low, looks like a duvet, like it’s about to lay a blanket over the ground. Very threatening but hauntingly beautiful in its own way. Was it taken with a Fish Eye lens of does the fence curve like that naturally?
The power of Nature not to be argued with 😁 Thanks for sharing.

Good afternoon Carole and thank you, I didn’t get out yesterday at all, devastating for the squirrels 🙂 but I got loads of photos edited and saved for sharing.
hat Jackdaw looked such a state didn’t it? Bless.
The catty always gets fed, it’s getting into a bit of a routine now but, I try to approach and get a good hiss and baring of teeth, maybe one day.
That’s the back view, wonderful isn’t it? I set a camera up if the night weather is right and capture Aurora and Noctilucent clouds, and anything else that happens by……spooky sometimes!
The panorama was three photos stitched together, keeping the horizon flat causes the curve in the fence but it works for me. I’ve never had daily / nightly access to such a big sky so I love it, hence millions of photos lol

Good afternoon Brian. Hope you enjoyed your walk and chance for some fresh air. I bet the squirrels were happy to see you, even if you couldn’t see them as they were hiding up the tree, waiting lol 👀🤭
Sounds like you were still busy taking lots of photo’s and editing. Look forward to seeing them.
Catty looks well fed, being so far out in the open countryside, makes one wonder where they come from doesn’t it? Feral cats can be quite vicious, so I understand the hissing and snarling barred teeth 😁😾 Had a tiny little feral cat that always visited when lived in Leavening, couldnt get near it, until one day, from under the bushes, actually, in pouring rain, it was sat on our wall, mouthing its meow, I went out and it allowed me to pick me it and take it indoors, bedraggled, soaking wet, of “drookit” as you say (oh I do love that word lol) fed it, slept for 2 days curled up on sofa and stayed. (much to EX hubbies angst!!) So yes, maybe, one day Catty will wander in. Wonder if male or female and if have more kitties to feed? 😹
Yes, the views are wonderful, beautiful. I love the shot, I can “feel” the atmosphere, and yes, it is a little spooky. Dont know if you noticed the “spooky” apparition or visitor lol 👻 just to the right of the photo?? My keen eye spotted it straight away, it’s like a mini tornado, or a “dust buster” blowing about in the breeze lol 🤣. Maybe a visitor that you didn’t see, but I sure did, but then again, I am a psychic intuitive, I spotted that straight away.
Never had access to such big skies? I know what you mean. I lived in Gloucestershire for a very short while and that had big skies, but then so does Yorkshire, the Dales. The Moors. Thats why I love it so much. Room to breath, gives a sense of pure freedom especially with uninterrupted views like you have. Beautiful. Look out for the swirling visitor lol Let me know what you see, if you noticed it lol 🤔🤭

Hmmmmm I’m afraid that spooky apparition was a scary wet blob on the lens!!!! (Next to the tree?) I actually got a shot of a tornado last year, same direction but up on the hills!!!!
No sign of any squirrels today sadly, maybe too late for them, they are absolutely gorgeous wee creatures though!!!

🤣🤣😆 Still makes a good shot though, interesting and gives it that “air” of spookiness.
Shot of a real tornado, WOW, bet thats something to see and very scary, hope it did not get too close to you in your direction. You must be high up in the hills. Just wondered, what are those hills, or mountains, in the distance, looming through the clouds? Bet you see all kinds of weather changes being so open and high up.
Poor squirrels, they dont hang around, if breakfast is served late, they off lol but yes, they are absolutely beautiful, and quick ,cute little creatures, red or grey or both?

Morning 🙂 I’ve just been searching for my tornado shot …. it was a phone grab. as we drove along the road, had to get it as a record.
We are on a hit, around 200 ft I think but those are the Angus Glens behind, all hills but work their way into the Cairngorms, not that far beyond so a very beautiful and wild area. My reservoir walk has become my regular walk because of Crossbills, the odd White-tailed Eagle and …. who knows what next?
As for the Red Squirrels! A half mile walk up the lane to my own personal studio! OK, I tempt them onto a fence post with a food mix 🙂 but I have got some fabulous photos of them (IMO) 🙂 Greys are banned up here, to protect the reds, we’re supposed to report any sightings and I have done.
Anyway, the reservoir calls, shower, dress and off for a wander now 🙂

Good morning Brian. Just had look at twister, as you say, typical, happens when dint have camera with you. Still good shot. Not quite touched down? 🙏 You certainly do live in the beautiful back and beyond, wild countryside. It’s shame new builds planned, fact of more and more folk wishing to leave the hustle and bustle of big city living! Well it’s not living, it’s existing! Doing what you do and where you live is my idea too of living and for the poor souls who are blind to the natural wonders of the universe and all its animal and creature inhabitants are the losers who miss so much. All they want to do is destroy the natural habitats, build big houses full of inanimate objects that serve no purpose, rather than look out their window and watch, see, listen to the best “natural” kind that is Gods gift to us all. That is the best decoration and interior design bought inside that one could wish for that costs nothing.
We’ve all done it. Actively partaken to building prisons around ourselves, filled with ostentatious objects and chattels, chased the allusive dreams, till we, the lucky ones, realise and know there’s more to life and start to declutter and enjoy real life. (If we are able to.. we still need money to pay for it, to afford to live in a lovely home in the countryside) and to pay for our hobbies, interests, life, but everything else is excess. We are blessed to share the natural wonders of Gods creations. 🙏 Enjoy your walks. I’m off to town – boring food shop 🥴 will respond to other messages tad later. Have great day x

Drookit! I love the Scottish expressions. I think ‘dreich’ might also apply? I think I’ve managed one holiday in Scotland without rain…
Wonderful pictures.

Now, dreich is one of THE words that say what they mean IMO 🙂
You must pick the wrong moments Adele 😉
Then again, it’s why it is so green, as with Wales, Ireland …. 😉
My original dialect was unintelligible to many, it has almost gone now, sadly.
Thank you
