Well, that’s that then. The road trip is over, we made it home. We had a choice; go for it in a oner or find somewhere to spend the night, split the trip one last time. In the end, we chose to go for it, enough strange beds, rooms, food, time for home comforts.
OK, that’s decided now we have to decide which route? We have a choice of roughly three, with variations along the way.

A favourite of mine is the second one, up through the middle of Northumberland and Scotland, a great road but if there are caravans and campers on it……… so we plumped for a straight run up the A1, the first option.
Being retired and living in the country, away from all the hustle of “life” we forget things like Bank Holiday weekends and school holidays, in this case, to our detriment.
That fabulous British tradition of laying out miles and miles of traffic cones where absolutely nothing is going on. The odd 20mph queue of cars that mysteriously clears and on you go?
It was a hot and testing drive with one stop for fast food, another to top up the tank, a last one for milk and home.
Just over 6 Hrs later! Pretty shattered but bearing up, we made it.
Washing machine loaded and switched on, PJs on, a beer, a wine and …… relax.
Time to take stock, feed the birds! Feed the (wild) cat!
Our own coffee followed, accompanied by a couple of slices of that home made bread I bought in Knaresborough, toasted, deelish!
A good sleep later, there’s nothing like your own bed right?
The birds have come back, glad to see the feeders full again, seven Jackdaws attacking the suet feeders this morning, I’d guess there are young mouths waiting to be filled.
The first young Starlings have just shown up, they’re comical to watch and photograph but, when they all turn up!!!!!

It’s good to be home.
In the states traffic cones with no road construction is a speed trap usually. The road construction may be there a few days a week. In that neck of the woods I have been to Edinburgh, Fife, Culross, and a few other places around that area. It looks like you folks avoided that.
