Our Garden Visitors (E-F)

The only bird that falls into this grouping is the Fieldfare which I would never normally call a garden bird but during Winter months, they can drop in on the lookout for extra food and they love Apples.

We’ve had one or two drop in during early snows and they’re feisty! Our most recent one would not allow any other Thrush-like birds near the apples, sometimes not even in the same area.

UK Thrushes

They arrive back into the country in our Winter months and large flocks of them can be seen whizzing around, often mixed in with Redwing, another Thrush-like bird. Our ones systematically stripped all the Rowans of their berries before moving on but, that made for easy-ish photography opportunities out in the surrounds. Having one visit the garden was a huge bonus.

I have to say, this has to be one of the grumpiest birds we’ve had visit, just have a look at these …

It fluffed itself up and zoomed around chasing all the other birds away.

And, heaven forbid another Fieldfare turns up!!

I was lucky enough to catch this punch-up between two of them and it was pretty violent until one gave up and flew off. We saw this and other Fieldfares through January and then they disappeared from our area.
