Penallta parc was a favourite walking area of ours in S. Wales, the site of a now disused mine, it also hid the remains of this old farm and the design of some the walls fascinated me.

We used to visit the park often and walked the many routes all around it but every time we passed this old site, we had to have another look and poke around.

In the warmer months the area around it was alive with greenery and wildlife.

I mentioned the paths that wander all around the park, there are a few that lead to and from the ruins and up to The Observatory on the hilltop.

From the Observatory you have a view down over the pinheads of an old mine and the new houses surrounding them.

However; one of the sights well worth visiting for is Sultan the pit pony

If you’re ever down that way, add it to your list of places to see, the inscribed stones laid all around the hilltop are pretty fabulous and extremely sad, being stories of the youngsters that worked underground.
